Post Brand Name Fads
Brand Name Fads
Brand names such as Armani, Versace, Calvin Klein, and Tommy Hilfiger are probably here to stay. Do you know why? Because these designers are not willing to simply go with the flow; they continuously reinvent themselves in order to keep up with modernity.
But there are others who arrived with a big swoop, made a huge mark in the fashion industry, and just as fast as you could say Culture Club,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they disappeared. They're still around not because of what they do in their given field; their longevity encompasses what they don't do.
These heavy-hitters refuse to follow fashion trends that don't fit their vision or corporate image. I am proud to say that I never fell into that trap, although I did own that dreaded 8-ball jacket. Ugh!
Ahh, the 80's, what a decade of passing fads and presently embarrassing photographs. Jordache was on top of the fashion industry, Converse had one of the top-selling running shoes, Ocean Pacific practically owned the market of fashionable, pastel-colored T-shirts, and Swatch watches could be found on the wrists of virtually everyone.
whatever happened to. The fashion names aren't as horrifying as the fashion fads that we all succumbed to at one point in our meager lives. Walking down the street in MC Hammer flood pants, a pink tee, Adidas wristbands, and of course, those prized British Knights running shoes, I thought I was the coolest thing to hit fashion since Madonna.
Speaking of Madonna, she had all of our girlfriends dressing "Like A Virgin",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], didn't she? Between the teased hair,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the mesh black shirts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the plastic bracelets, and the fluorescent bandanas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we couldn't tell one woman from the other.
What other brand names are now obsolete? Bicycle shorts anyone,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
from here to. where? Some name brands disappeared from the trendy market just as quickly as they came in. The majority of them made the mistake of not setting the trend, but rather mimicking it. You'll rarely see someone strolling down the street wearing a pair of Brooks or Converse sneakers nowadays simply because they were imitators and not innovators.
But some companies made a huge comeback. Adidas began flailing in sales at one point in the 90's, but it revamped its ad campaign,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], logo and image,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and voila! It's back and better than ever before, although no one,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I mean no one comes close to Nike.
Although Levi's has dominated the jean industry for as long as I can remember,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], other brands have come and gone. Do names like Jordache, Gitano and Sergio Valente ring a bell? Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in 1982, the latter went out of production as the designer-denim craze died. Sergio Valente simply stopped production in 1982 and kept a low profile. But in May of 1997, Valente launched his jeans once again when editors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], celebrities and specialty stores alike began demanding his product.
Soon celebrities such as Beck,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Mariah Carey and the Spice Girls were spotted donning Sergio Valente jeans. Mariah Carey even wore her jeans in her popular "Butterfly" music video.
Based on the success of the women's line, Valente then launched a young men's collection in June 1999. The first product was officially offered in November 1999, just in time for the holiday season.
Although it's quite rare for a designer label to make such a roaring comeback,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], stranger things have happened. These are the guys that try to find a way to throw off the right cues -- they're well aware of the current vernacular and they know the current music.
Very quickly, however,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they find themselves up Manure's creek without a paddle. It's very dangerous when a brand name's only objective is to be cool. There's not enough there to sustain the brand's longevity.
The broader idea should be to remain relevant. It should not only meet people's wants; it should also perform the way people want it to. In the last couple of decades, there has been a lot of hype about brands. Consumers are always in search of something that has intrinsic, lasting value.
