Waffle is the art director and designer at Modallion, a custom rug design service that's a division of Reznick Carpets, a 35-year-old business at 81A Ronald Ave. in Toronto. "Jordan Reznick (owner and operating manager of Reznick Carpets) has become my partner and co-creator of Modallion. He wanted someone young and fresh to access a younger, hipper crowd. I'm pushing to find the rugs into the downtown core."
She is an area rug rookie. Her first official rug collection is called Over the Line, her interpretation of traditional panel, prayer and tribal rugs. It's her fifth series of artwork.
Waffle,[url=http://duveticaouterwear.blogspot.com/][b]duvetica outerwear[/b][/url], 28, is a graduate of Ryerson University's Fashion Communication program, where she displayed a love for painting large-scale fashion illustrations. Traditional prayer rugs are woven in earth tones with Islamic symbols and architecture images. Waffle's rugs are 4-foot x 6-foot. They feature pop imagery like a skull at centre and bird at top and therefore are woven in vibrant and electric colours.
They're very Frida Kahlo-esque plus they made a huge buzz at the recent Interior Design Show (IDS) in Toronto.
"IDS was my coming-out party," Waffle says. "I sold three rugs on the floor.
