Tennessee News Delivered Throughout the Day
Shouldn't he still be sitting in jail,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or at least having to actually pay something significant to get out?"Numerous problems with the cases prompted compromise plea agreements that netted the defendant an effective 5year jail sentence followed by 25 years of supervised probation and a lifetime of community supervision."It sounds like the short sentence was not because of a lenient justice system this time, but because of an inability of the police or prosecution (or both) to present a solid case. The only bright spot in that is it spared the children a trial, but it allowed this monster to be free so much sooner. At least we can hope the judge wasn't on drugs at the time.I for one don't have to speak to him to know that whatever his level of remorse it is nothing compared to what he has and will put the families of the victims through.I am curious though, the speed with which you jumped on "Duke" suggests that you feel differently than he does. Have you spoken to the the subject of this article lately and what type of remorse did he express to you? Or is it that you just want to like and support the man so bad that you would jump on Duke when you actually have no more information about the man's mindset or emotional condition than Duke did to start with? May I ask why you felt that Dukes comment was in need of clarification? Is there a reason that you feel this man is worth defending, but the families of the victims are not?I agree with the sentiment of those who are unwilling to offer support or sympathy for the exjudge. The man is a disgrace to everything he claims to have stood for his entire career. He made a mockery of his own courtroom, of the citizens of Knox County and the State of Tennessee, and helped to step on what little dignity our Judicial system might have retained. I know that he is retired with pension, is that something that can be removed, or is it too late for that, does anyone know? Where is he now anyway, still in Knoxville?I've never done it before so I don't know all the details, but if it was a prostitution deal it seems odd to me that someone would be soliciting one at 4 or so in the afternoon, whatever time it was, and especially that she would meet a customer with 3 other people in the car with her. If he was from Union county and actually meeting one at a hotel, wouldn't he likely have told her to "meet me in room X" rather than meeting out in the parking lot? And if she got in his truck where were they going to go if they were already at the hotel? Alot of it doesn't really make any sense when you think about it.I for one at least partially believe the guy because I meet random people in random places buying/selling things on craigslist all the time. Sometimes its sketchy because you don't know who has a gun, if people are planning to just rob you, or if a whole slew of people are going to run up behind you. It could have been something like that but who knows yet. What he was investigating could be anything, and it will eventually have to come out to clear his name if he really wants to do that. I can see why he wouldn't want to say anything if he's pursuing legal action, but I think people should lay off of their assumptions because they could be way off and thats not fair to the guy. Just wait for the facts and don't play into the media's play on words just to make someone look bad. They've got armed robbery suspects in custody so one of them will have to explain exactly why they were there.I don't know any more about the details of this story than the rest of you, and it sure seems odd to me. However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I would like to agree with one part of what you said. For example, I sold an iPod touch on Craigslist a year or so ago. The buyer was a woman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I met her after I got off work one day at the Shoney's parking lot near my office. I told her what area of town I was in, but I let her pick the location, thinking that as a female she was probably nervous about meeting a strange man. I look at that in light of this situation and wonder about all of the "what if's". What if that woman was a prostitute or drug addict? What if she had a pimp or drug dealer along to rob me of a $200 piece of electronics? Anyway, more than likely the deputy was really looking to get the services this "lady" was arrested for providing to others since he is sticking to his investigation story rather than a situation such as I described, but it makes me wonder what I should have or might do differently in the future.Well those of you looking for savings in administrative positions, keep looking. For too long the cry of "for the children" has been rammed up our behinds, only to have manifested itself in the form of bloated salaries in academia and the upper echelons of secondary education.I have a Phd,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],call me doctor,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],and pay me a high six figure income is the norm.I do have a postgrad degree but I work in the private sector,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],where market forces dictate my salary, not grandstanding to government bureaucratics inflating my self worth.Members of an employee's immediate family will be considered for employment on the basis of their qualifications. Immediate family may not be hired, however, if employment would:1) Create a relationship whereby one immediate family member is within the chain of command of another,2) Have the potential for creating an adverse impact on work performance; or3) Create either an actual conflict of interest or the appearance of a onflict of interest. There is more, but it's too much for me to put in here. The REALLY relevant part is the following sentence which is at the end of the section: This policy does not apply to "immediate family" who already are employed by Blount County as of the effective date of this policy; this waiver, however, may not be used as a basis for furtherexceptions subsequent to the effective date of this policy.Any law enforcement officers or spouses who know why Officer Rickman would not wear his department issued vest? I would think in that line of work I would want all of the protection (and firepower) I could get. I only hope that he recovers fully and is able to testify against everyone involved in this crime. On another topic, am I the only one who has never heard of a residence having a silent alarm? I thought those things were just for banks and such. I have an alarm system, and I want mine as loud as possible.
