San Diego Seaport Village
Strolling beside San Diego's harbor is a festival for the senses. The weather is absolutely perfect most days of the year and people watching is guaranteed, as is that warm and gushy feeling you get as you take in the sights, smells,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], tastes, sounds, and feelings of a little cozy corner of downtown San Diego called Seaport Village. Just a seagulls' wing away from the famous Gas Lamp Quarter, Seaport Village is fit for any San Diegan "wanabee" or local alike. Let's explore the countless reasons why you should put Seaport Village on your "Must-See" list in San Diego.
What's okay to grab from my closet?
The best part about Seaport Village is the lack of rules. Walking harbor side of the city, you will see every fashion from the trendiest fitness guru complete with bouncing air shoes to the sun-kissed sun dress local to the bare-minimum optimist. You will see all walks of life from the rich yacht owner to the person just trying to scrape by while enjoying one of the most fabulous places in the world. You will see human robots, parrot paraders, and even pirates. As I made my walk through, I chose athletic attire. While many shopping areas may make you feel like a sore thumb sticking out to the fashion police in such an outfit, there, I was a part of the beautiful mosaic. As I passed through the plethora of gorgeous sweet and salty smells of the many restaurants, I also passed mothers and fathers donning the proud camera flashes of their newest family member with kites the size of small elephants in the background. I saw new romance blooming as cute couples cuddled on towels in the grass taking in the most luxurious sunshine in the world (California sunshine, of course!). I saw children gasp with wonder as a real-life (well, maybe not real-life) pirate ship skidded the coast while blasting us with cannons as happy captives waved on deck. I saw every kind of man's best friend, and I swear they were actually smiling and had a bit more pep in their step, like they were proud to be a part of it all. I was too; you just can't help but feel that way in such a place filled with wonders.
Oh,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the choices in Sea Port Village. If you are on a diet, you will actually feel like you ate something just walking through Seaport Village's center. Imagine smelling an authentic beef and chive burrito, peanut butter fudge, buttery crepes, and sizzling steak all in a matter of one minute. You can get your hands on anything from the classiest sea food meal to the quick service authentic Mexican. You can dine on the bay or while being serenaded by the latest local talent which is sure to boast a Spanish flavor. You can grab a cold one and stroll the sunny sidewalk or indulge in some home-made ice cream or fudge. For quick service, I recommend Margarita's it's a window in the center of Sea Port. They have some pretty good beer prices and a life-changing taco salad. Be sure to ask for their home-made ranch also. For the more formal meal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], The Edgewater Grill is going to give you that local fare along with stunning views of the bay and Coronado.
My money is burning a hole through my pocket! Quick, where should I go?
Sea Port Village offers something for everyone whether it be Christmas décor or surf-friendly accessories. Window shopping is a must, you can even go in many shops with your pooch! In fact, Fido would definitely appreciate a visit to Pet Hideaway where they sell his favorite toys and even offer pet advice! Several toy and children's stores line the harbor paths, a perfect place for grandparents to spoil their favorite grandchildren. For a taste of true San Diegan style, a stroll through the San Diego Surf Co. is a must! You can find men's and women's attire there, with a surfer style that can only be found in SoCal (no dreads necessary to enter). If you were impressed by the infamous giant kite flyer on the bay, stop in Kite Flite to get your own flying wonder. The Seaport Village Shell Co. can take care of your beach shell scavenger hunt for you, and you can even get authentic shell jewelry. If you are looking for that fun gift to get for family and friends, swing by The Mugger where you can please anyone from the pet fanatic to the NFL fan, complete with personal touches!
It's no surprise that a place full of everything you could desire to see or eat has a great lineup of fun entertainment all year round. Your ears will smile when they hear the Spanish guitar notes coming from Seaport Village's center. You can see concerts, festivals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and even local street performers. On Sunday's you can check the calendar and catch the free concert series, with something different every week. The Spring Busker Festival is reminiscent of Key West as some of the most impressive street talent take to the cobblestone streets to send a shiver of awe through all who visit. No matter what day you visit, you are sure to be entertained.
The only warning I have for visiting this quaint corner of San Diego is the strong urge that will come over you to visit again and again. Your heart will surely melt for Seaport Village's romance and charm,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Just don't say I didn't warn you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]!
