Tampa hairstylists give free haircuts to needy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
A Tampa hairstylist says the secret to success is a good haircut--her inspiration to give free haircuts to the homeless,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Armed with a pair of scissors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the right music playing and an empty lot just off Nebraska Avenue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Shola Idris is hoping to change the world by giving out free haircuts. Well maybe not the world,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], more like someone's attitude.
"A haircut will change your life it will make you feel like a brand new person,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Idris. "It will motivate you to want to do better because you're more confident you look better,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you feel better,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you even begin to speak better."
Idris,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a professional hair stylist,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], said she was inspired to give back but wasn't sure how to do it.
"A few years ago I did this at a church and I really enjoyed myself and I liked the fact that I was giving back and I was changing lives. So I tried to go back to that church to see if they were going to be doing it again in the future and they never really got back,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," she said.
That's when she and her friend took matters into her their hands,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], taking in donations for clothes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], shoes and food. They said they knew once they passed out fliers and put up signs those in need would show up. They were just hoping those who promised to volunteer would too.
For professional barber,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Steve Collier it was a no brainer. "It's a blessing to be able to bless somebody else,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Collier. "It's a god given talent so why wouldn't I want to?"
Kerrick Stegmier was one of those who Collier blessed with his talent. "I enjoyed the generosity of the people that are helping us,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Stegmier.
Kerstin Creamer got one too. "It feels good,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], professional. You can feel it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Creamer.
A good feeling Idris is hoping will lead to a brighter future. "A lady that was sitting behind me was saying when she gets her haircut she's going to try to find her a job,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," she said.
