Canada says it's ready to be Asia's top energy provider
DAEGU, South Korea, Oct. 16 () -- Canada is in a unique position to meet the energy needs of expanding Asian economies, the Canadian natural resources minister said Wednesday in South Korea.Canadian Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver addressed delegates Wednesday at the World Energy Conference in Daegu, South Korea.Oliver said demand for natural resources was shifting to Asia. Emerging economies, he said, are growing faster than all of the developed nations combined."Whether it's China or India, or right here in South Korea, the concern is the same: how to ensure energy security," he said.Japan, Oliver said, relies on imports for 90 percent of its energy needs. South Korea, which is the 10th largest energy consumer in the world, relies on imports for 97 percent of its energy needs.Oliver said Canada has export plans under way to address Asian energy needs.
