problems with catalytic converter on a new car
I have an 06 Toyota Corolla which had problems with the fuel pump within a few months after I bought it from the dealer. After the pump was replaced,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the catalytic converter went bad. The dealer told me he replaced it as well, but after I took it to a couple of different mechanics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they said it was still the original one. the difference is that I could feel a slight vibration while driving it after the "fix". The car now has only 19,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 miles. Recently the maintenance light came on and I took it for oil and air filter change which weren't due until 20.000. I was told the front brake pads were at 10%,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and after reading this forum,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I am wondering if the pistons are damaged due to the fluid which could be contaminated due to the problem with the catalytic converter.
Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I was wondering if there is any way to fix a car with these types of problems,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and what is the best solution.
I had actually gone to three dealers and pretty much was told that since I did not buy my car at their dealership, they could not do much for me due to I think ratings they get on how many cars they have to fix under warranty.
I just went to a new mechanic who took a look at the brakes and said that there was actually 40% left at the front and 85% at the back. So he is just adjusting the brakes. It's a tough world out there with car repairs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and I have learned a lot reading this site.
I am really glad this site exists,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], because it helped me pause and think and look for a solution and not be just a victim. Thank you to everyone.
At least you are learning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]!! I am quite cynical when it comes to "car shops". If you find a good one you are lucky and should stay with that person/shop. The only time I have taken a car to a shop/dealer is when warranty work is involved and I do have many horror stories from the experiences,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
40% remaining sounds like you are right on track for wear,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
I did have a set of original rear brake shoes last 120K miles on a van I purchased new,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. The shoes still looked new when I replaced them. I should have replaced them at 60K when I replaced the rest of the brakes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Toyoda in the owners manual as a Toyoda Dealer they must legally and by contract with Toyoda make the Warranty repairs regardless of where you purchased it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
