Facebook fakes steal AFL stars identities

Tarrant and the manager Paul Connors last week asked police to investigate the fraud.

Cheap imitations
A minimum of three club captains, a Brownlow Medallist, a Coleman Medallist and many players in their early twenties are among those who've fake profiles on the internet.
Among the captains said he was aware of four false profiles setup under his name previously 16 months.

Mr Connors also revealed he'd be seeking police involvement in an id theft matter involving Collingwood's Dale Thomas.
When it was put to AFL Players' Association leader Matt Finnis at least 40 players had registered complaints about id theft previously 3 years, Mr Finnis said: "That would be a conservative number."
Damage control
The Facebook identity theft of Tarrant began soon after he was recruited to North Melbourne in late 2007 and status updates and wall entries were made even as late October this year.
"It's just shocking what's been happening and I'd much like whoever it's who's doing this to place himself during my shoes," Tarrant said.
On most distress for Tarrant were references made about one of the six Mildura teenagers killed when a car ploughed into them in 2006.
"I knew among the individuals who died within the accident and this person started writing all about that incident. People from Mildura (where Tarrant grew up) started saying stuff to me contributing to me. And it was awful.
"I do not know who's doing the work, I've asked around Mildura and Bendigo with no one knows. My best mate keeps telling people it is not me but it never disappears."
