Finally the thing Chuck has been waiting for all season happened in this episode of the show. He makes contact with, and eventually meets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his mother. This is also the Halloween episode of the show and it featured Freddy himself: Robert Englund. So,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the ingredients are all in place for what should be a fantastic episode of the show. What we got was an OK episode of the show with some really underwhelming moments. There was still good in this episode,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as there always is with Chuck in general, but the episode just missed the mark of greatness. The most frustrating thing about this episode of Chuck is that it felt like two 30 minute episodes of the show. At the half hour mark, it felt like the story was really winding down.
Englund played to his skill set in this episode of Chuck by portraying a mad scientist. He was a lot of fun in the episode and the high point is when he meets his match in the Buy More. He created a formula that basically drove people insane by causing them to see their greatest fears. Again, that sounded so cool,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the first time Englund appears on screen is awesome but after that, the story just never hit that pinnacle of greatness that it should have. It was great to see Englund and he did chew the scenes as best as he could with the material he was given. Again,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], once he goes up against Jeffster Halloween aisle of terror, he does get some funny lines.
On the subject of Jeff and Lester aisle of terror, it was mildly amusing but not the insanity you have expected especially considering the way the two of them have been acting this season. Some of their choices for truly terrifying visual were amusing though. Man feet, baby in costume, and black licorice were all particularly funny. The fact that these two chose these images was one thing but when people also found their choices scary made the whole thing funnier. Why no major Halloween catastrophe? There was obviously plenty of room in the thin story of the week for them to have done more.
There not one thing surprising about Chuck mother in this episode. The twist at the end was predictable and the previews for next week episode don appear to be doing anything new with the story at all. Linda Hamilton brought absolutely nothing to her character other than a recognizable face and name. To be fair, she didn get much screen time in this episode,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but she just seemed bland. Hopefully if she gets Scott Bakula level screen time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], she do as much with her character as he did. Casey and Morgan were in this week episode but they honestly didn get that much to do. The focus for them seemed to be off comedy and more about establishing a new relationship between the two characters. While their scenes weren exactly riveting,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there is potential for future episodes involving this new relationship that could yield some real humor. Finally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Awesome mom played by Morgan Fairchild, is in town to help Ellie with the baby. Not much to say here other than this is probably a set up for a reoccurring character. Fairchild has been funny here so maybe she get there in upcoming episodes.
