Melbourne Storm to fight Blair suspension |

Melbourne Storm to fight Blair suspension,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Blair was yesterday handed a one-week suspension by the NRL judiciary for dangerous contact in a tackle on New Zealand Warriors captain Micheal Luck in Saturday night's win,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
It was only a grade one charge but carry-over points from two previous non-similar offences meant Blair would miss one week with an early guilty plea or if the club fought the charge and lost,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said the club would fight it not because there was nothing to lose but because it had a good enough case and wanted Blair to play on Friday night,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"If you don't think you are a chance you wouldn't go up. You have to go with a strong case or you are wasting everyone's time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Ponissi said. "We will go and give it our best shot."
Blair was charged with a "crusher" tackle,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but Ponissi denied any suggestion it reflected poorly on Storm's tackling techniques.
"Absolutely not. I don't think we have had many players charged this season," he said.
If Blair doesn't get off, his loss could be off-set by the likely return of fellow prop Jeff Lima,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who had a plate inserted to mend a broken thumb last Monday.
Storm physio Mary Toomey said Lima's surgeon was confident the plate had "good fixation" and if the burly Kiwi could get through training this week he should be cleared to play,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"The surgeon said if there was no swelling he would be able to play in the first week of the finals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Toomey said.
"So far the swelling is good and we just have to see how he handles the training load,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
Lima completed yesterday's session wearing a brace on his thumb,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Storm's forward stocks could be further bolstered for the game with Scott Anderson also on the mend from a hamstring injury,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
He is only rated a 70 per cent chance to return with a decision to be made as late as game-day.
Storm will get the chance to train at Etihad Stadium on Thursday night before the final where it will lose the advantage of the small end-goal areas it usually enjoys at Olympic Park.
The NRL yesterday confirmed the ground would be marked to "international field standards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," adding as much as 2m at either end of the field.
And Storm's inconsistent season has affected its impact on the end-of-year player honours with just one star,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Greg Inglis,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], attending tonight's Dally M Awards in Sydney.
