A new product that combines the best exercise benefits of a bicycle and an elliptical trainer arrived in style yesterday when American endurance athlete Jenny Hadfield pulled up in front of a Mississauga store after riding 800-kilometres from Chicago,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Illinois.
Hadfield was riding an ElliptiGO,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], described as the world's first elliptical bike.
The vehicle is perfect for people like Dyon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a former four-time Canadian marathon champion whose running career ended because of injuries resulting from the constant pounding on the pavement.
Hadfield,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who spent five days riding the ElliptiGO from Chicago to Mississauga,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], will compete in this weekend's Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. She is sponsored by ElliptiGO,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the California company that has been manufacturing the vehicle in the United States for several years.
"The ElliptiGO combines the cardiovascular intensity of running with the low-impact benefits of cycling,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Hadfield. "Compared to conventional road biking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], elliptical biking burns more calories over an equivalent distance,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so this will be a much more physically demanding ride for me than if I were just riding my road bike,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Hadfield said.
Mike Dyon and his brother Paul started RMP Athletic Locker Ltd,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. in Mississauga in 1977 and brought Brooks running shoes into the country because they liked them so much after they used them in Florida,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
