Everybody likes a bargain. And there no better bargain than good vodka with a little price tag. The only problem with vodka is sometimes cheap just ain worth it. But I got good news! I actually found a decent vodka with an even more decent price tag: Spudka!Made in the good old U. S. of A. from Idaho potatoes, Spudka is another fantastic product from Hood River Distillers. Spudka is triple distilled and twice filtered and comes in somewhere between $11-17 bucks a bottle depending on where you buy it. But how does it taste? I glad you asked. This past weekend I had a long list of things to do and unfortunately getting drunk wasn one of them. If I was going to have a taste testing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I was going to have to multitask. (As it turned out, he had more to put in the yard than I did.) But it was drinking during the day that took some persuading. I assured him we would go easy on the booze and to picture it more as a scene from one of those Country Time Lemonade commercials with the two guys chillin on the porch watching the day go by. Unfortunately, the yard salestarted at 9am. I over slept and had to put everything on display quick. After rushing to lay out all my crap I needed a beverage caffeine. But before I could make the Ice Picks we first had to taste the vodka. I poured Daddy Warbucks and myself half a shot. It was only 10:30 in the morning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], after all. Mr. DW was quite reluctant to take the half shot but being a Vietnam Vet I played to his patriotism by telling him that Spudka was an American vodka made from Idaho potatoes. Intrigued,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he picked up the crystal clear bottle with the red white and blue design in one hand which left the other available for me to hand off the shot glass. I detected a hint of citrus which I though would go well with the tea. Daddy Warbucks caught a taste of something in the finish but couldn quite put his finger on. pretty good,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Daddy Warbucks concluded. cheap and it American. What not to like? I agreed. It added a nice flavor to the unsweetened green tea which had just enough caffeine to keep us awake during the lull between customers. And of course the right amount of booze for us not to care that we were wasting an entire day sitting on our butts. When we did actually make a sale we raised our glasses in the air and yelled It was our little inside joke which got funnier and funnier every time we did it the more Ice Picks we drank. Our outbursts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as few and far between as they were,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], garnered sideway glances from other potential customers. But hey,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if you can have a little fun while half your personal belongings are strewn out across someone grass that are being haggled down to mere pennies by complete strangers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], screwDay 1 came to an end and Daddy Warbucks sold half his big ticket items and a bunch of his mother costume jewelry. I sold a shirt for a dollar. I would have sold a bunch of men shirts to a guy if Daddy Warbucks didn try to sell him cufflinks (that he had already sold earlier that morning,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], mind you) to go with the French cuffs on the shirts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], alerting the guy to the fact they had French cuffs which caused him to change his mind. I thought that called for celebratory cocktails and I made Spudka Lemonades. The Artist, who lives next door, joined in on the tasting but not the yard sale as watching TV with The Russian,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who also popped by, seemed far more productive than counting cars and getting sun burned. The vodka mellowed out the sweet tart flavor and made them dangerously easy to drink. Most sugary drinks are. Add more sugar to the alcohol,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like slices of watermelon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the alcohol gets processed faster speeding up the effects. By noon Daddy Warbucks and I were bordering on drunk and no offer seemed too low. We were selling crap left and right. screw it! Two for a dollar,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I heard myself say more frequently than I should have. as I took a handful of pocket change. Daddy Warbucks would echo. I sold a chair to Zoolander and made a huge SPUDKA of a sale when some chick bought my couch. I resisted telling her it originally belonged to a low budget porn star that was evicted from my building for not paying rent. I was really buzzed but I wasn stupid. While that little bit of trivia may have been a selling point with a guy I wasn't sure how sexually liberated she was. Daddy Warbucks and I sat on his porch feeling the full effects of our new found favorite bargain vodka, Spudka. We counted up our loot and decided to call it quits. We packed up what was left of our crap and tossed all my heinous shirts into the Salvation Army box at the end of the block. Although we accomplished very little other then getting sun burned and drunk it turned out to be a fun weekend. I slipped inside to say goodbye to The Artist only to find him passed out on the couch.
