When the Lindenwood University football team makes its first official appearance as an NCAA Division II team and full-fledged member of the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) this fall, fans will notice many subtle changes, including various stadium improvements in the seating areas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], restrooms, and concession stands.
The new Student-Athlete Center, which is being built just outside Harlen C. Hunter Stadium, is also almost complete and looks spectacular.
In the past, Lindenwood looked like most other teams from the NAIA division, with drab all-black uniforms and helmets that featured almost no color,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no trimming,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and no designs on the helmet.
This year, the Lions expect to make a big splash with new uniforms that accentuate all three traditional Lindenwood colors -- black,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gold, and white -- which should fit right in with the other teams in the MIAA, which with its reputation as the best D2 football conference in the country, often sets the trend nationally among small-college football.
Head coach Patrick Ross has not yet unveiled the Lions' entire new uniform, but he did show off the team's new helmets at last April's Lindenwood football awards banquet.
That night, the Lions football family took time out to honor many of last season's offensive and defensive heroes, including Offensive MVP Andrew Helmick, Defensive co-MVPs Chris Howard and Christian Golder, leadership award winner Mike Bunton.
But Ross also made sure to stir up the crowd by breaking out Lindenwood's shiny new gold helmets.
It's been several seasons since Lindenwood football wore helmets with any type of design or logo on them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but beginning this year, the Lions will sport those gold helmets, with a fierce-looking black facemasks, and a stylish black LU logo on the side.
The new helmets also feature the traditional Lindenwood lionhead logo and will have each players number on the back,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Speculation on the new jerseys is that they will come in three different colors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], black, white, and gold,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with the black jersey serving as Lindenwood's primary home attire and the white jersey doing the same for road games.
The gold jersey,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], if it does exist,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], would be Lindenwood's third alternate uniform choice, and could be worn no matter where the Lions are playing on any particular day.
The pants color choices are most likely going to be gold and black,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with a possible all-white option as well.
According to Lindenwood's sports information department,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], only Ross knows for sure what the uniforms look like,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and most likely first chance anyone around here will get to see them is when the Lions host their first home game of the season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Saturday, September 8, against Southwest Baptist University.
