the quest for comfortable shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
After giving away tons of pairs of shoes away because they hurt my feet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it finally hit me that there was no such thing as comfortable AND very stylish women's shoes. Sadly, during my 20's and 30's,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the quest for the perfect combination of cute and comfort did not bring anything,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but lots of pain and discomfort. Unfortunately, my sense of aesthetics was based upon the fashion industry and you know those shoes are completely uncomfortable if you have them on for more than five minutes.
My shoe fetish brought me from store to store, trying on shoes that had no business being in my closet. I didn't buy sky-high shoes, but if the shoes weren't adorable and inanely fashionable,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they were crossed off my potential list of maybes. Plus,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I got lots of compliments for my shoes. Which made my fetish even worse. So,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], finally it occurred to me one day that stylish shoes and comfort did not go together. It was an oxymoron and the stuff of nonsensical fairy tales. It was time to get real.
"Why is it that older people never wear fashionable shoes?" I observed one day. They wear ugly Birkenstocks, Clarks or some other sensible shoe. "Don't they like being fashionable?" And then,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it hit me. Because beautiful shoes never are comfortable (I don't care what your girlfriends say. it's simply not true). And so,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], older people must have the experience of throwing out pair after pair of good looking shoes until they get sick of it. Then,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they buy uglier shoes that are comfortable.
And so,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I caved. Bought myself decent shoes that were somewhat more expensive and less aesthetically pleasing. These shoes will last forever because they're so well-made. I won't be fashionable,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but oh well. I will have stopped throwing out all my shoes. Like the Russian proverb which states,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "We are not so rich as to buy cheap things." (Or penny-wise,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], pound foolish). Sad,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but true.
