Can anyone recommend good walking shoes for WDW and Universal
I would welcome any advice as to what kind of shoes people have had good luck with at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando. We are going in a few weeks and we have been before but now our kids are all into the water rides where as they weren't before. My DH says our good old tennis shoes and socks worked last time and they should be OK this time as well. However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we never had to worry about getting wet before and I really am not looking forward to walking around all day with wet, squishy feet. Also, we are not staying on site so it wouldn't be feasible for us to go back to the hotel and change. We are especially go to be at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure because we got the 7 day passes and they have the most water rides.
Has anyone worn Crocs or similar shoes with success there? We all have them (except DH!) and I find them not so attractive but very comfy and breathable-not to mention waterproof,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]! Any thoughts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
I have been going to WDW and Universal for 11 years straight,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I go during the christmas season so you know the parks are chaotic with people,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I have even gone twice in August so I know about the sudden showers that pop up in the spare of the moment so believe me when I tell I know what shoes work and what are a nightmare,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]! Please do yourself a favor and get yourself the nike or new balance walking shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Get them in the next half size because your feet are going to sweat and swell up because of the heat and the amount of walking your going to do,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Whatever you decide get the best shoes for your budget because you will be spending alot of time in them. As far as the water rides there are some great water shoes I saw in the Eddie Bauer catalog that were about thirty dollars. The look really comfy and have good traction,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Enjoy your trip!
Having been at WDW just 2 weeks ago,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and experiencing the wonderful water parks in July heat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I would recommend some type of water/hiking sneaker that becoming popular. They're similar to sneakers or lightweight hiking shoes, but have holes cut into the sides for breathability, and even drainage holes in the sneaker-padded soles. You can wear these types of shoes with socks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the point is to keep your feet from staying wet all day, and socks defeat that purpose.
Before we went,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we purchased some from Lands' End,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and they have a great selection for both adults and kids. They had specially treated insoles to prevent odor, and were very comfortable. While there,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I saw several families wearing crocs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and WDW even sells some with tiny Mickey patterns on them for airholes, but I am not a croc fan. It seems like water and or perspiration could cause blisters in crocs, but I don't wear them so that is just a suspicion.
Whatever you end up wearing (and I highly suggest the water sneaker type!), try to break them in a little before you wear them. You will not want to have ill-fitting shoes on your feet with all the walking ahead of you. Have a great time!
I worn my normal every-day sneakers at WDW every time I gone. I always go on the Water Rides, and haven yet had the squishy shoe problem. On Splash Mountain, the water tends to come at you horizontally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and so it really just your face and stomach that get wet. On Kali River Rapids,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there is a bar in the center of the raft that you can (and should) put your feet on as you go down the big drop. And that really about it as far as water rides at Disney.
Unfortunately, I haven been to Universal or IoA yet, so I can offer any advice on water rides at those parks.
I have seen many people walk the parks with their crocs, so if you go that route,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you won be alone at the very least. I would rather strongly suggest you not worry about the "fashionable" aspect of the shoe - remember that (1) you never going to see any of the people you meet there ever again, and (2) You will frequently spot 30-year-old tatooed biker dudes wearing Mickey Ears on their heads. Disney is not a place to be concerned with how you look.
The crocs might also be a good idea because they can (if I recall correctly) be worn at the Disney Waterparks as well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to prevent your feet from burning on the pavement as you walk to a slide or wave pool.
