A Boston Globe blog on home and clothing fashion
My room and apartment have always been filled with photos of family and friends. Color. Black-and-white. Tattered. With or without edges. The motley crew of memories was housed in equally random frames of shapes and sizes. Whenever we moved into our Somerville apartment three years ago, the frames on tabletops and dressers cluttered the overall minimalist feel in our home. (By minimalist, I mean Ikea and never much of it. Minimalist is the new thrifty, people.)
Thus,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], our photo wall was born.
We spent hours choosing frames and hammering them into the wall just so. Despite the fact that I love the depth and texture of actual frames, I just came across Swedish it designer Lisa Bengtsson's one-dimensional solution to the same more-photos-than-places-to-put-them problem:
Classic bag man Carlos Falchi, who is noted for his textured leather purses and loyal customers (past and present) for example Jackie O., Mick Jagger and Cate Blanchett, may be the newest Tar-jay collaborator.
The 13-piece special edition line will be the store's eighth designer accessories launch past designers have included Botkier,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Felix Rey, and Anya Hindmarch (that was so anticipated last October the whole collection sold out in two minutes). Falchi's bags is going to be available on the web as well as in stores from Oct. 11 to Dec. 27 and will also be made of faux snakeskin in jewel tones, based on Women's Wear Daily.
Bring on the stampedes of bag lovers.
While planning my wedding in the last eight months, I've visited more wedding-centric blogs that I choose to admit. (I am not a Bridezilla, people. I just take some inspiration.) My favorite read is Brooklyn Bride.
The tagline? "Planning a modern wedding inside a realm of pink flowers and poofy dresses." Amen. Creator Van Broussard an interior designer by day writes about from calligraphy and stationery to bridal shows and funky vendors.
I especially drool over her "Real wedding inspiration" posts which showcase the amazing little details and moments that define the large Day.
A certain stylish Globe sports reporter approached me with a question yesterday: Where could he find a chic trench coat for his girlfriend? True, most of the country is much past winter but within the hinterlands, we want extra layers to get us through crisp morning commutes in the spring. (Please,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], forget about photos of celebs frolicking in the California sun. Not cool.)
I heart trench coats. And although I really like the classic, tan London Fog look there are so many color, cut,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and elegance variations available. Here are a few of my personal favorite finds, in no particular order:
I must confess that I'm slowly warm up to "The Fashion Show," on Bravo. There are stuff that are bugging me still (present an opinion on the in-progress clothes. please!), but it's filling an important void in my life. Fine, it's becoming my life. Shall we recap last night?
I had been not crazy about the winning look and felt that Anna must have won, but since this was a ensemble for Ashley Tisdale, taste was clearly not taken into account. I was just happy that red eye shadow tulle lady was the main one told to go home.
I made a decision to check Bravo's site today to see how faithfully the winning outfits were replicated available, and they're pretty close,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and never too costly. What about it 'Philers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], would you buy these looks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or simply say "Bye bye,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], darling."
Yes, the recession is hitting most of us hard. But, celebs, please: Cut your own bangs if you cannot afford a hairdresser. You are looking mighty unkept. I imagine there are several things you need eyes for: to scowl in the paparazzi; to make sure you're the only one wearing vintage Chanel on the red carpet; to navigate said red carpet in 10-inch Louboutins; and namely,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to bat lashes at Johnny Depp. (Or, maybe that's just me.)
Alternately, if this is some sort of group protest as with, we will never cut our hair until Lohan wears pants,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], for real, nobody wants to see that then continue keeping on, ladies.
Well chickens, it's like spring is finally here. I know this because my attention allergies are earning me look like a bloodhound. and (this is the more important one), the SoWa Open Market returns a few days ago. Additionally, there are the SoWa Food and Produce Market,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which year, the SoWa Antiques Market debuts. every day. Happy shopping.
There will be something called the "Look Your very best at Every Age" beauty happy hour event taking place at the Boston Harbor Hotel on May 18th. Now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I understand all of you already look your very best and the like an event is probably of no interest. But for those of you searching for a little advice, this gathering is free, and, even better, there's a sweet swag bag.
Here's the official description:
Biolage haircare, Lancome skincare and well-known Boston nutritionist Courtney Little is going to be on-hand to provide free expert consultations to consumers who wish to appear younger without spending thousands on expensive treatments and surgeries. Receive a unique gift bag loaded with $150 worth of beauty goodies, including Biolage rejuvatherapie, and enter a contest to win a thrilling weekend spa getaway.
The only real only thing you have to attend is register in advance. Space is limited,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and if you're interested, register here.
Television critics have sliced, diced, and sautéed Bravo's "The Fashion Show," which debuted last week. As you have already determined,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it's the cable network's new "Project Runway," since it lost the reality gem to Lifetime following a lengthy court battle. The primary complaint about "The Fashion Show" is that it's trying too hard to become "Project Runway." Well, as we used to say in sixth grade, duh,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], obviously it is.
I did not find it to become as offensive as others. It will take some getting used to, plus some of the contestants make my skin crawl (see above), but otherwise it had been engaging. The scariest thing about it were the garments, but hopefully that improve with future challenges.
However i wish to hear from you, dear readers. Will you be tuning in again now for the "Fashion Show"? Love it or hate it, I want to hear your ideas.
Not too long ago I wrote a story concerning the envelope-pushing perfumer Christophe Laudamiel, who has developed fragrances for Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, and Estee Lauder. He's the tremendously talented bad boy of the perfume industry. This spring he's staging the earth's first scent opera in NYC.
Laudamiel come in Boston at the French Library on May 11, and if you're remotely curious about the fragrance industry, you need to attend his talk. It's $15, or $10 if you're a member of in france they Library. You are able to RSVP at 617-912-0400.
Here's the description of the night's program:
The world renowned French perfume creator will invite us to go to the heart in our senses, to biological levels inside the universe of emotions awakened by smells. He'll show us how olfactory senses really are a powerful way of communicating and educating, in the commercial world, as well as in our personal lives. Laudamiel will talk about the use of technologies linked to the spread of a scent in order to create a specifically intended ambiance or concept.
