A report from advocacy group Ceres, formed in Boston in 1989 in support of a sustainable economy, said too much of the natural gas associated with North Dakota's oil production is burned, or flared, supra tk society, off by producers."Although the state's oil and gas industry is stepping up its efforts to curb flaring, the total volume of flared natural gas continues to grow," Ryan Salmon, oil and gas director for Ceres, said in a statement Monday. "Investors are looking for producers and regulators to take more aggressive action to prevent the loss of this valuable fuel."A 12-page report from Ceres said the volume of flared natural gas more than doubled from May 2011 to May 2013. It estimates the natural gas associated with oil production could be worth as much as $13.50 per thousand cubic feet, the benchmark volume for natural gas.Ceres said natural gas producers burned off 29 percent of the natural gas from North Dakota in May.
